Before you build
This Quick Ship J.K. Hawken is ready to go. Here is everything that helps you build and finish it.
Building your J.K. Hawken
- Read the manual first. The J.K. Hawken instructions (PDF), the patchbox and inlay instructions and the percussion lock care sheet (PDF) are also on our PDF Instructions and Downloads page.
- Watch it step by step. The J.K. Hawken section of our Kit Assembly Video Guide matches shop videos to the steps in your manual, including a hooked breech overview.
- Print the specs. The spec sheet (PDF) has every measurement in one place, and the Recommended Tool List (PDF) covers what to have on the bench.
Watch other builders
- A build series from unboxing and fitting through wood finish and aging and engraving and metal finishing.
- Flame bluing Hawken parts and shaping the stock.
- A finished Kibler Hawken.
- More builds are in the builder videos section of the guide.
These are other builders' videos. We haven't checked them, and your Kibler's manual comes first.
Made in Kensington, Ohio
- Every kit comes out of our shop in Kensington, in the same part of eastern Ohio where Jim grew up. Read how the shop got started, or meet the team.
- The design is ours and the machining is ours. The inletting is done, and the standing breech, trigger plate and lock bolt holes come drilled and tapped.
- The barrels are interchangeable because their outside dimensions are fixed.
Considering other kits?
- The J.K. Hawken is our percussion plains rifle of the mid-1800s, and we rate it easy for beginners.
- Want another percussion option? The Barn Gun comes in percussion or flintlock, left or right hand. For flintlocks, see the Woodsrunner, Colonial, Southern Mountain Rifle and Fowler.
- Not sure which one fits you? Read Which Flintlock Kit Is Right for You?

Shipping
Liquid Shipping
Liquids will not ship in the kit box. There are different regulations that apply to the chemicals that we sell and they will need to ship ground, when the kits will ship USPS Priority Mail. Plus, it would really stink if a liquid were to leak on your beautiful new kit!
Order tracking
You will receive tracking information when your item ships. For kits, you will be contacted before shipment and after shipment so there is no need to worry about a kit box shipping when you are out of town. All other packages will ship when available and you will be emailed a tracking link.
