By far the sweetest flintlock rifle on the face of the earth .
My second Kibler kit. My first was the Woodsrunner , I’m pretty sure my next one will be the Fowler. I’m very sure I won’t be disappointed!
The mainspring vise is a must have. Not all are created equal. This one sold by Kibler is a game changer; well constructed and easy to use. It makes taking a part the Lock a piece of cake whether for cleaning or first when sanding and making the metal the finish of your choice.
I am waiting on a left-handed Barn gun flintlock. I can give a better review when I finally get to use the tools I purchased. Hopefully soon?
The grind is perfect for the jaw screw. It keeps the slot straight not like other screwdrivers that act like a wedge. Well worth the price
I screwed up and my frizzen screw rusted in. Drilled it out, chased the threads and installed new screw from Kibler. Well greased new screw should always be free. Fingers crossed!
It is great to have a gun case that fits my long guns. The zipper is smooth and strong.
I had read about Nitrate ( Aqua Fortis) thru the years as a traditional stain so I decided to give it a try. Very happy with the result on my hard Maple stock and not hard to use— came out a medium deep brown.
My first time putting a kit together was fairly easy most all the parts fit perfectly I only needed to remove a little wood here and there would highly recommend to anyone wanting to build a kit .
The tannic acid powder significantly enhanced the contrast in the curly maple. Easy to mix and use. A little goes a long way.
It's a nice case! It does fit, make sure your ramrod isn't sticking out too far.
Jim is building a good product. The challenge with this build is not overwhelming but enjoyable
My research all the choices for my desires, Kibler’s Longrifles one that they’re building quality and now that I have assembled and shot my first target. I know I made the right choice.
So I think the Kibler team
The iron nitrate is very easy to use, and brings out the incredible color that fancy maple is capable of. I wated a week before applying a linspeed oil finish. Though the stock turned out darker than expected, it is very beautiful! Thanks for what you are doing for the muzzleloading people.
First Quality casting. Great fit and finish. Perfect way to top off my custom build.
Sorry I haven’t tried them yet. I have know doubt they will work just fine.
Works a charm. Kind of scary with the color changes. Works a charm though.
...I, however, won't ever know. I ordered two bottles with my Woodsrunner kit (along with flints and mainspring vice), and the fascists at the border apparently opened the crate and took only the browning solution out!?
If you're Canadian, or ordering from overseas, understand that Border Agents confuse this solution with either crystal methamphetamine, or bomb making materials? I hate this era we're living in.
The Hawken kit was beyond my expectation. Learned a great deal and followed Jim’s videos. I have completed the build and it came out beautifully. I was so anxious to see the final result, I may have hurried it a bit and next time I’ll be more patient and slow it down. Anxious to start my next build, hopefully on a Woodsrunner.
Very sturdy and of high quality. Will purchase again.
I love the mainspring vise. The quality is definitely there. It is much better than the one I got earlier from another vendor. It did help me though to have two of them to disassemble my lock. Thank you!
Today I fired my kit for the first time. First notes: Fast lock, accurate, well balanced. Kit went together well with minimal fitting required. Service was faster than promised for delivery of kit. Altogether this kit is shaping up to be a top notch shooter!
Received the rifle kit in perfect condition. The cherry wood was very nice.
But….after some fine sanding I dampened the wood with tap water and a paper towel to raise the grain prior to final sanding. The next morning I found the stock covered in black mold!
I am experienced in wood working and have reconditioned numerous rifle stocks. Never had this experience before. I searched the internet and found one person who had the same issue on a piece of cherry furniture he had made himself. He used table vinegar to wash the mold off. I did the same. 90 %of the mold was removed but some mold did get far into the grain to discolor the wood. The person who wrote this on the internet said they found a product called Concrobium, by Rust-Oleum. They use this product exclusively for raising the grain of wood. (Kills mold)
So, I now have an imperfect cherry stock that I’ll have to live with.
Why this happened.. don’t know. My shop is conditioned and has a dehumidifier . Humidity is kept between 40-50%.
I enjoy your products and videos. Keep up the high quality and standards.
If you ever have a leftover, Hawken stock you need to move…send me an email.
Respectfully, Jake
For the price you really can’t find better
Excellent kit, great customer service and communication. I’m thrilled with the product and experience!
