Excellent fit of the barrel, lock, trigger guard, butt plate, ram rod metal and fore cap. The extra fancy wood has fantastic figuring and cored great using the Kibler Iron Nitrate. Draw filing the barrel took a bit more effort than I thought, but maybe my files weren't as sharp as should be after draw filing a previous barrel. All said, it is a fantastic rilfe.
Was most pleased with the barn gun.
I got the 50cal smoothbore in Hopes I might take a few squirrels as well as a hog and deer. Kit was well packed and easy enough to assemble. Had one minor slip with a barrel pin, my fault. Lock required a 1/2 hrs of scraping to get it to seat flush at the pan. Stained with home made black walnut, blued barrel and back it off some with steel wool, same with all but lock, left it on the white. Multiple coats of oil and thinned sealer. Wanted it to look good but not pedersoli shinny. Sparks well goes off quick, trigger 2.5-3lbs and sights need a file down on the front only but I opened up the rear some for my old eyes.
50yards I can keep all in a 1# coffee can lid size group. Good enough for any Texas deer. At 30yards those groups go down to 2". With #6 shot it gives me a pattern at 15yards that covers a bushy tail like white on rice.
The chisel is well made and came fairly sharp. I am still learning to use it but the 2mm has been great for small places and fine lines.
This is probably the best stock finish I have ever used. It applies easily and smooths out perfectly with hand rubbing. It gives a semi- gloss finsh which really enhances to beauty of the wood. Dries quickly, but best to wait 24 hours before next application.
This is my preferred method for finishing steel parts. Quick and easy. If the metal is clean / oil free you just can’t mess it up. I apply the solution to a darker than desired color and rub it back to the look I want.
The barn gun is flat out wonderful. Finishing it up was straight forward and easy. The stock and metal finishing supplies from “Kibler” worked exactly as described and the gun looks great. The first pull of the trigger put a ball dead center on target at 20 yards offhand. You can’t beat it.

Shirt is good quality. Logo and name are easily recognizable to those in the loop. Others dont have a clue what it is but thats understandible here in this neck of the woods. Its comfortable and true to size. Big thumbs up !
I never realized how much help these old eyes needed until I started used these magnifiers.
I have a Fowler & a .45 SMR. I wanted a throw around rifle so introduce the barn gun. Never had a .40 & kickin myself now for not ever having one. Shoots good & flat. Went together super easy. Spent a little time snugging the lock up to the barrel, maybe 30 mins. Total time I spent on the rifle was 28 hours. I should’ve spent a little longer, but I’ll get one in a .50 flinter & maybe pay a little more attention to detail. It’s easy to rush because I was so excited to get out & shoot it. Sweet rifle!!!
