Kibler's Longrifles — celebrated for historically accurate, precision-crafted muzzleloader kits — has turned its attention to one of the most honest firearms of 19th-century America: the barn gun. Rooted in Southern Appalachian gunmaking tradition, this kit captures the essence of rifles built for necessity rather than show — no buttplate, no nose cap, no entry pipe, no sideplate, and no patchbox. These were guns that fed families and protected homesteads in some of the most rugged country in America, and assembling one by hand today is a quiet nod to the craftsmen and settlers who shaped this country with nothing more than skill and hard work.

The barn gun's straightforward design makes it one of the easiest kit builds Kibler offers — which also makes it a perfect project to tackle with a child or grandchild. Fewer parts and simpler assembly means more time spent enjoying the process together, and the finished rifle becomes something far more than a muzzleloader. It becomes a story, and a memory.

Kibler's barn gun kit features a 38-inch swamped barrel in a rifle that is notably light and beautifully balanced — comfortable in the hands of men, women, and younger shooters alike. Stocks are available in walnut, cherry, or maple, with both right and left-hand configurations and a choice of flintlock or percussion ignition. We'd also encourage you to include the grease hole — it's used for storing a small amount of grease as a patch lubricant, it's traditional on this style of gun, and it simply looks right at home. And true to the spirit of the original, the simpler design allows Kibler to offer this kit at a more affordable price point — opening the door for more people to experience the joy of building and shooting a traditionally crafted muzzleloader.

"Plain, solid, simple in construction, yet very beautiful and functional."

Liquid Shipping

Liquids will not ship in the kit box. There are different regulations that apply to the chemicals that we sell and they will need to ship ground, when the kits will ship USPS Priority Mail. Plus, it would really stink if a liquid were to leak on your beautiful new kit!
