Mainspring Vise
Support the Hershel House Foundation:
Our friend Trey Scott of TS Steelworks in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania, has poured his skill and care into crafting a durable, functional mainspring vise at an affordable price. After extensive testing in our own workshop (on many, many locks), this design has proven itself to be incredibly reliable.
Every vise is made in Trey’s own shop, with the kind of attention to detail you only get from a craftsman starting his own business and determined to do it right. We’re thrilled to support a new American maker and to finally offer you a tool that meets our standards - and yours.
Mainspring Vise
The mainspring vise is a must have. Not all are created equal. This one sold by Kibler is a game changer; well constructed and easy to use. It makes taking a part the Lock a piece of cake whether for cleaning or first when sanding and making the metal the finish of your choice.
Works great!!! Best one I've used.
I love the mainspring vise. The quality is definitely there. It is much better than the one I got earlier from another vendor. It did help me though to have two of them to disassemble my lock. Thank you!
Great mainspring Vice, works great well made.
Very pleased with purchase

The whole Kibler experience has been an education and a great pleasure. I had never taken a lock apart before. That's a good thing, because without this tool I would have made a huge mess of it. It's a must-have.
Well built, heavy duty, nice machining, and the large ring makes it easy to apply pressure, It is pictured with my first vise Dixie Gunworks (1963) , a Track of the Wold deluxe English vise, and the TS Steel vise. They all work with the TS Steel easier on the hands

Very pleased with purchase
I opened the box and everything looks good. I haven’t started on it yet I think it’s going to be a fun winter project.
Worked for me. It's a good vise.
Works great. Just what I expected.
This spring vice has been a big help to me in cleaning up many other locks I have. Old BP rifles from the 70’s and 80’s that have slow locks that solvents can’t loosen up. I’m very happy with this vice :)
Perfect size and great to use!
Excellent tool for main spring compression. Works well just like the originals. Essential for safe lock disassembly/assembly. I highly recommend this tool.
Unlike some other mainspring vises I’ve had, this one holds under pressure. This vise is very sturdy and easy to use. Would definitely recommend!
High quality tool
Very nice main spring vice. Vise made from high grade materials with great craftsmanship.
I have many, many main spring vices. Almost all are commercially available but a few were made by me. All have some short coming or other. However, thus far, this vise is the most robust and most versatile of the lot, hands down. Well worth the price and very solidly made. It is now my “go to” vise for any lock work I am doing.
The mainspring vise is solidly and well-made.
Built with quality materials worked as intended
The mainspring vice is excellent. I recently used it to depress the frizzen spring so that I could remove a screw and attach a flash guard. It worked great.
Well built tool with good machining. Metal box is nice to store tool in.
While this is not a complex tool, it is exactly the tool for the job. It is well designed and well made. While I am in the process of of building a Kibler Southern Mountain Rifle, I purchased the vise to assist with disassembly of the lock. It will allow that without concern for damaging it. Once the lock has been aged a little bit of electrical tape will let me pad the vise for lock assembly.
The mainspring vise worked perfectly and made disassembly / reassembly a breeze.
I would definitely buy from again!!! A++++
This looks like a well built tool and it works OK. However it is a bit heavy and cumbersome and the loop on the bottom is way too large and unwieldy compared to others that I have used. The large loop is easy to get a hold of and turn but makes fitting this into certain locks problematic. Could benefit with a little refinment.
Beautifully made, and much more stable than the usual spring vise.
A pleasure to use..
Nice vise. Good quality little mainspring vise.
Very impressed with the quality. I have not had a chance to use it on my colonial lock yet, but I have clapped down on everything within arm's reach of my desk. I have a great appreciation of the functionality of the thumb screw, but it more historically correct thumb screw would be a nice addition to the piece. As I start my colonial build I look forward to using the vise as intended.
Works great with a lot of different types of spring locks
Works well, as one would expect. No complaints.
I used this for the disassembly of my lock. It is quick and easy to use. I'm glad I purchased it for my build.
