Very easy to use and nice results on the first try...keep it wet to even put...happy with the results.
The rifle turned out exactly and I mean exactly the way I wanted. The kit was very easy to assemble. The tannic acid and iron nitrate finish was incredible. Customer service was excellent!!can’t wait to build another one.
Where to begin? First, this is a Hawken, not a "Hawken style", not a "plains rifle", not some generic BS named rifle. Second, the weight is just what the doctor ordered, I don't need no stinkin' 12 lb rifle!! Third, Holy Perfect Fit Batman. In fact a little too perfect, keep the stock finish out of the inlets & don't go crazy on the browning solution. Jim really nailed this kit. Well worth every penny & then some.
I haven't had a chance to fire it yet, but if it shoots as good as it came out it's a real winner. The reason I gave only 4 stars is because if the small size of the pins that hold the barrel and the pipes are too small to disassemble with ease, at least to me. Some day in the future it will require disassembly to repair some rust, or work on the trigger, and the small pins will be a pain to drive out without some damage to the stock. On the one I built back in the 80's had to finally need work and the larger pins were driven out with a nail set no problem. Just my opinion folks, but an extra half inch of thickness would make for pin size of at least a sixteenth of an inch. Maybe it's not exactly true to period, but then I don't use corn cobs instead of paper when shooting.
