Before you build
This Quick Ship Southern Mountain Rifle is ready to go. Here is everything that helps you build and finish it.
Building your Southern Mountain Rifle
- Read the manual first. The Southern Mountain Rifle instructions (PDF) and the Ketland lock care sheet (PDF) are also on our PDF Instructions and Downloads page.
- Watch it step by step. The Southern Mountain Rifle section of our Kit Assembly Video Guide matches shop videos to the steps in your manual.
- Print the specs. The spec sheet (PDF) has every measurement in one place, and the Recommended Tool List (PDF) covers what to have on the bench.
- About the lock. This rifle uses our CNC Ketland lock. Our guide to Ketland and round-faced locks explains where that design comes from.

These are other builders' videos. We haven't checked them, and your Kibler's manual comes first.
Made in Kensington, Ohio
- Every kit comes out of our shop in Kensington, in the same part of eastern Ohio where Jim grew up. Read how the shop got started, or meet the team.
- The design is ours and the machining is ours. The stock is CNC machined, all holes are drilled, the sight dovetails are cut, and the breech plug comes installed.
- See a finished one in our gallery: Rifle #16, a Mountain Rifle kit.
Considering other kits?
- The Southern Mountain Rifle is our slim, iron-mounted rifle of the 1820s, with small-bore calibers from .32 to .45 and double set triggers.
- Want an earlier, brass-mounted longrifle? Look at the Woodsrunner or the full-size Colonial. The Barn Gun is a plain iron-mounted rifle that comes in left or right hand. The J.K. Hawken is our percussion plains rifle, and the Fowler is our smoothbore.

Shipping
Liquid Shipping
Liquids will not ship in the kit box. There are different regulations that apply to the chemicals that we sell and they will need to ship ground, when the kits will ship USPS Priority Mail. Plus, it would really stink if a liquid were to leak on your beautiful new kit!
Order tracking
You will receive tracking information when your item ships. For kits, you will be contacted before shipment and after shipment so there is no need to worry about a kit box shipping when you are out of town. All other packages will ship when available and you will be emailed a tracking link.
