Before you build
This Quick Ship Barn Gun is ready to go. Here is everything that helps you build and finish it.
Building your Barn Gun
- Read the manual first. The Barn Gun instructions, the spec sheet and the percussion lock care sheet are all on our PDF Instructions and Downloads page.
- Follow the steps. The Barn Gun section of our Kit Assembly Video Guide lists each build step. The All Kits videos cover sanding, scraping, staining and metal finishing.
- Print the specs. The Barn Gun spec sheet (PDF) has every measurement in one place.
- Flintlock or percussion? The flintlock uses a late Ketland lock. Our guide to Ketland and round-faced locks explains where that design comes from.

- More builds, plus hunting videos, are in the builder videos section of the guide.
These are other builders' videos. We haven't checked them, and your Kibler's manual comes first.
Made in Kensington, Ohio
- Every Barn Gun kit comes out of our shop in Kensington, in the same part of eastern Ohio where Jim grew up. Read how the shop got started, or meet the team.
- Jim has built flintlock longrifles since 1990 and brings a metallurgical engineer's eye to the work. The stock is CNC machined, and the lock and tang bolt holes come drilled and tapped.
- The iron triggerguard pattern was hand-forged by Ian Pratt.
- Kibler's makes a donation with every Barn Gun Kit sale and sends it to the Hershel House Woodbury School Foundation quarterly.
Considering other kits?
- The Barn Gun is one of our easiest builds and the only Kibler kit that comes in both left and right hand.
- Want carving? The Woodsrunner offers relief carving. You can also look at the Southern Mountain Rifle, Colonial, J.K. Hawken and Fowler.
- Not sure which one fits you? Read Which Flintlock Kit Is Right for You?

- The story behind this rifle. The Barn Gun Kit: Build a Piece of American History covers the plain working rifles of early 1800s Appalachia and why Jim brought this one back.
- Finishing the stock. Our Complete Stock Finishing Guide covers walnut, cherry and maple. If you choose maple, read about iron nitrate stain.
- Finishing the metal. Jim's notes on barrel finishing.
- Shooting and care. Loading a muzzleloader safely and shooting and preserving a flintlock.

Shipping
Liquid Shipping
Liquids will not ship in the kit box. There are different regulations that apply to the chemicals that we sell and they will need to ship ground, when the kits will ship USPS Priority Mail. Plus, it would really stink if a liquid were to leak on your beautiful new kit!
Order tracking
You will receive tracking information when your item ships. For kits, you will be contacted before shipment and after shipment so there is no need to worry about a kit box shipping when you are out of town. All other packages will ship when available and you will be emailed a tracking link.
