Kibler's CNC Ketland Flintlock

This lock is as good or better than any flint lock I have ever used, even without any polishing or tuning. This is the new standard that other locks are compared to.

Perfect fit

These locks aren't the cheapest, but I think they're the best you can get. When you're pulling the trigger, do you want to have to worry about your lock? If you keep your flint sharp and your touch hole clear I'd be surprised if you ever had a misfire with one of these.

My first and only flintlock and it works great. I was having to replace flints after 12 to 30 shots which was discouraging and expensive. Then I read on the Muzzle Loading forum that what was probably causing that was the frizzen was rebounding and striking the top of the flint. The fix was to extend the leather in the jaws to where the top piece extends all the way front edge of the flint. Now when the frizzen rebounds that leather cushions the blow and protects the flint. I keep a shooting journal and every flint since doing this lasts for 125 to 135 shots. I clean that leather when I clean the gun, dry it and then oil it back to flexibility before reinstalling it. Before I store the rifle I lower the hammer to the pan and then lower the frizzen onto the leather so it takes a set right on the flint. After 24 hours I raise the frizzen to its open position. Works for me!

This lock was just as expected. It is my second one, so I knew what I was getting.
Just finished the rifle so only fired it about 30 times. One failure to fire, was due to the flint becoming dull. I was not maintaining the flint or cleaning the lock as I shot, just loading and shooting. I think this is excellent. Very pleased.

I’ve owned one for three years and have shot over 5000 times. Very fast, perfect wear internally, and very correctly built.

I’ve had several late ketland locks in the last 15 or so years and the kibler late ketland is by far the best yet.

I love these little locks. I teach Kibler rifle building classes and it’s always a treat to watch students fire their Southern Mountain Rifles on the last day. They’ve heard the myth that “flintlocks are slower than caplocks” and are amazed just how fast their rifles fire when they trip the trigger the first time! Good geometry ensures that sparks are directed right into the center of the pan, resulting in quick ignition. The “bevel up” design also lets the flint scrape most of the frizzen face, making those showers of sparks possible.

I’m glad we can get Kibler Ketland locks individually now. I’m looking forward to incorporating them into guns I build from a blank from now on. Knowing that all the Kibler locks that go out are built in Jim and Katherine’s shop alone instills confidence that you will be getting a quality lock right out of the gate every time. Look no further if you need a later style flintlock for your builds!

I bought Kibler’s Ketland flintlock to put on a slim .38 caliber Appalachian rifle. I haven’t quite finished building the rifle but I’m confident ignition will be excellent. The lock throws sizzling sparks most of which fall into the pan and it’s fast. The fit and finish of the internals is perfection. I especially like that the sear pivots on a bushing and the screw can be drawn down snugly w/o binding the sear. Thanks for a great lock.

Kiblers English style Ketland lock is exactly the quality you’d expect. Super first rate. I especially like the ‘sleeve ‘that surrounds the sear screw. As good as it gets .

coming from a thompson center i was expecting better performance but i was blown away by the craftsmanship and fit of all the components that make up the lock ... very nice and is of exceptional quality imo

One of the best commercial locks available today. Fast, sparks like crazy, and easy on flints. This is my third one going on a build.

I’ve been making flintlocks for many years and have used everything on offer. Kibler locks are the best. If you want a fast lock, look no further.

This Ketland lock (I have 2 for my .36 SMR)
has never failed to produce a good spark.
I have no complaints…fits perfectly into my Kibler stock.

The part you see can hide among any fine original and the guts go far beyond any such in all regards. The function is flawless, speed fast, and without an equal!
