What if? Since the SMR apparently isn’t worthy of two rear sight heights like the Colonial and Woodsrunners get, what if the SMR sight got two vertical grooves cut or molded into the inside of the vertical wings of the sight so that a piece of steel or tin could be cut and slid down in those grooves thereby heightening the sight. Then all that would be required is to take a triangular file and cut a notch in that piece of metal. Beats the current alternative of buying a Track sight and working it to fit IMO.

I am enjoying putting the kit together. Beautiful wood, Cherry. I am not particularly skilled at woodworking, but it is all coming together.

The ramrod was too big and took a lot of work to make it fit. I ordered a second one as a backup.

When preparing for staining, I wet down the wood to raise the grain, which worked. However, I left the butt plate on after sanding and the water created a stain in the butt plate, which stained the wood a blue color. My mistake, but correctable with a lot of sanding.

Sight looks like it belongs on the gun. Dovetail angle didn’t come close to matching angle cut into barrel. Barrel dovetail was not cut deep enough to properly/securly hold the sight. Poor dove tail job and I hope the kit/barrel I have on order will address that. Mostly however I am pleased with the kit. You have a pic of the turkey kill. Was fun

I purchased the sight to replace the rear sight on my SMR, because I took a little bit too much off the dovetail. The replacement sight is very nice and will work well. The surfaces of the new sight are "crisper" than the one being replaced. Glad to get this from Kibler's Longrifles.

They are a perfect match to the ones that came with the SMR. To get my rifle sighted in I had to file the front sight so much there really isn't much left. To compensate for this I am replacing the front sight and am going to experiment with the rear sight. Going to try to build it up taller and that way I can file the front sight down and have it shoot bulls eyes and it will be tall enough I can see it . Hope this works. I tried to find out about just getting a taller rear sight but could not get info on which one to buy. At fifty yards it shoots cloverleafs but too small for my old eyes. Love it.

The sight is well made and fits the slot well. I have modified the original sight with a set screw to hold position when sighted in, so I wanted an unmodified sight to switch if necessary.

Had to replace the original site which had been filled to much during construction. Kibler always responds fast when buying parts or kits. Excellent company with great products!

The sight is fine.

This rifle looks great and shoots even better! It’s a clean build. Very petite, light in the hand, well fitted and very accurate! Would not hesitate at all if you’re on the fence about this flintlock! It was my first build and couldn’t have gone together any better.

Sights are extremely low and tiny. Because the site plane is so long, any reflection or glare makes the sites almost impossible to see. My suggestion, raise the rear sight and raise the front sight considerably so there is room for sighting in. Also a somewhat wider front sight would much improve the sight picture.

Order was fulfilled expeditiously and the sight properly prepped and installed. Coming from outside the flintlock muzzleloader world, though, I really can't fathom why rough castings of small parts requiring end user detailing and finishing are considered to be the norm, whereas anywhere else in the gun world a part delivered in this condition would be considered defective and unacceptable.

This was ordered to replace the rear site that was defective in my SMR kit. The original sight was a flawed casting. New sight was fine.

The rear sight is minimal but if it's what they used back in the day it's important to stick with it. For hunting though I'd like something more pronounced like a buck horn rear sight that you see on Pedersoli rifles that's easier to pick up in low light or while snap shooting. If you can find or produce a second choice such as a buck horn sight I'm sure they'd sell as an option. I'll take 4.
