The inspiration came from a simple conversation with a customer and a borrowed original — Jim studied an authentic barn gun from a friend's collection and drew directly from it, ensuring this kit is faithful to history in both spirit and detail.

Kibler's Appalachian Barn Gun Kit features a 38-inch swamped barrel in a rifle that is notably light and beautifully balanced — comfortable in the hands of men, women, and younger shooters alike. For builders who also want to hunt, Jim recommends the .45 caliber: it is large enough to ethically take whitetail deer while still producing a beautifully balanced, easy-handling rifle. Stocks are available in walnut, cherry, or maple, with both right and left-hand configurations and a choice of flintlock or percussion ignition. We'd also encourage you to include the grease hole — it's used for storing a small amount of grease as a patch lubricant, it's traditional on this style of gun, and it simply looks right at home.
