I can’t say enough about the WoodsRunner. QUALITY is outstanding. Shooting it is so much fun. I bought this for the chance to build my own. I looked at several kits and landed on this one after reading everything I could about it. Can’t wait to get it in the woods.
What a fun build! I ordered my kit expecting it to arrive two months later, like my Woodsrunner kit did. Ten days after the order I got an email that it was ready to ship. Two days later it was on my doorstep! It is such a beautiful rifle. As expected, everything was exceptionally well sorted and I was able to concentrate on adding a patchbox, heel plate, and a couple of inlays. Already thinking about my next project!
Easy to finish and use as an extra range rod.
Exceeded expectations by a wide margin. I've built a handful of longrifles from precarves and component sets over the years and I am very anxious to get started on the Woodsrunner.
I'm extremely pleased. It has been a beautiful process thus far and the company jas been completely helpful in every way. Next kit i order will be a kibler. And the one after that, kibler.
Excellent service, product, and quality put into the transaction. I needed them to act as patterns for me to make them by hand, and they are perfectly suited for this purpose!!
Extremely high quality kit with great packing.
Great. Kit. Love the way it went together. I’ll send pics when I get the lock back from engraving.
Kit initially arrived damaged (UPS most have thrown it around) but Kibler replaced the stock at no charge and the customer service was amazing! Kit was alot more work than I expected (Southern AZ on the border) and required quite a bit of inletting and filling due to the huge change in humidity from Ohio to Arizona. The stock must of shrunk ever so slightly due to humidity which meant every inlet required a hour or two of slow chiseling and removing of material. Metal components were great and high quality and the wood was also great quality. After staining and applying finishing oil the humidity tanked and it reached 100 degrees here so I had to inlet some more post finishing. If you live in the desert id recommend giving your rifle a week or two to adjust to the environment. Finished it in two weekends with maybe 20 hours of work into it excluding time for browning and applying layers of finishing oil. The including drill bit kit and chuck was my only major issue. The included bit guide is the same length as the drill bit so I had to cut the guide in half and the chuck wouldn't hold the bit but luckily my power drill could hold the bit on its own.
I used this for both browning the barrel and blackening the action of my SMR. I draw filed the barrel until all the scratches went the same way, then wiped it down with acetone. I applied the solution with a wool swab and hung it up overnight. The next day it looked very streaky, but I carded it with a wool felt pad , applied another coat and waited overnight. The barrel showed about 90% red rust coverage and I repeated the process for a total of five time using an oiled felt pad for the final carding. I wiped with acetone again, and then a baking soda water solution. I heated the barrel, applied a coat of plain 30WT motor oil and let hang. Next day I wiped with dry paper towels and finished with Ballistol
I got an even deep brown color.
I then used it to blacken the action by rusting the individual components and boiling for about 45 minutes and carding.
Don't use anything other than acetone for cleaning the raw metal surfaces before rusting.
This product produced excellent results, all by itself, on Extra Fancy Maple. I considered other blog recommendations, analine dye or tannic acid, but ultimately just went with this. I’m glad I did. It looks great.
Went together great. No issues. In the process of sighting it in. Had to bend the barrel to the left a little but it’s really close.
I have never held a flintlock let alone put one together. Got mine in six weeks. The way it is packaged is top notch. I just finished mine three days ago it’s absolutely beautiful. I watched the videos allot waiting on my rifle so when I got it I felt like I knew what I was sort of doing. There is not one part that doesn’t fit perfectly together. I enjoyed building it and I will get another one most likely a Fowler. Just waiting on deer season now.
Fantastic kit! The Hawken almost falls together, everything fits with little finish work. In the end it looks great and preforms very well. Highly recommend.
The perfect range rod for the flintlocks. Too long for use with the Hawken.
The Kibler Hawken is a fantastic kit, superbly engineered and a dream to put together. You can't go wrong with a JK Hawken. Jim's Youtube channel will walk you through just about everything you need to know. Jim Kibler's company and staff are by far one of the most customer centric business's I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with.
Can't say enough good things about the kibler kits.
Well made, beautiful, easy to assemble.
Look forward to buying more.
I own three Kibler kits but have only assembled my Fowler. Very easy to put together and finish! I couldn't be happier with it! Now I'm ready to tackle my SMR and Woodarunner. I can't recommend Kibler enough.
excellent rod. I haven't used it yet. The newly remodeled state gun range is about to re-open. Can't wait to make some noise and smoke.
The patch box cover, I had to do a lot of work to make it work. The drill device to drill the pilot hole, the small drill bit did not fit and broke right off so I was in a real pickle but got it done. I Bugger up the rear hole for the trigger guard but came out ok, overall the kit is very good.
This will make a great 44 inch ramrod, for a 16ga muzzle loading shotgun, that was made in the 1850 to 1860s.
I wish the lock purchase had been made a bit more clear. I ignored and even deleted the invoice due to a name I did not recognise. My fault but this is a business email and I get a ton of fake invoices. O am still in the middle of unpacking from my move. I jumped on the QS #8024 because I liked the little knots in what was otherwise a great piece of wood. So I havn't really looked it over as yet. What barrel manufacturer did you supply on it?
